Holidays bye-bye?

I guess holidays are meant to be occasions to chill out. You kinda expect holidays not be the same once you're in the line of fatherhoood. No more taking off without bookings, no thrill of that kind of adventure.
So now, the decision is whether to go to Cochin or not. Thought it would be a good idea for the lady to see a new place. The home doctor wonders if we can put it off for now and think of it 2 months later. ummm, wouldn't that be the time when the whale starts it walk? but there's a medical reason supposed to be associated with this request from mom. Lets seee what the wife's gynaec says and what the wife feels.
Any which ways is ok for me, though I'd really like to take wife to see those amazing chinese nets in Cochin.

First Time DAD!!!

OK,so I'm a few weeks late in starting this blog. Its meant to be a sounding board to all expectant first time fathers (or so I hope).

It started about 2 weeks ago. I get home about 8 in the evening, and as I'm waiting for the garage keys to be thrown down, the wife zips down and with a look of urgency on her face says she needs to get a pregnancy kit from the pharmacy. With typical male procrastination, I reply that she can do it tomorrow.
There are times in the history of man, when emotional arm-twisting by the other half may have led to nations being built or wars being fought (I can picture only Helen of Troy for now). This is such a moment.
So we go on to the pharmacy all the while complaining that I have to get back on the bike and drive all around the one-way street to a place thats a 5mt walk from home.
Once the kit arrives home, there is nervousness on the lady's part. I advice her to keep this to herself, but as expected, that falls on deaf ears. The doctor at home is informed of this event. She advises the wife to check the next day, but at this point in time, its Katrina or the Great Mombay Flood thats going to be the reason for the postponement. Since Bangalore is immune to such extreme weather, we can assume that the wife has her way and checks her kit.
Pontificating..... I'm pretty sure a kid is on the way. Call it that rare 'men's premonition'. And I brag to myself when the results are positive. Some day I shall be consulted by the many pot-bellied politicians to provide advice based on my premonitions.
Anyways, the night ends with one excited wife, two in-laws who are beaming, and one husband who hasn't really understood what just happened and just wants to get a good nights sleep to get over a tiring day.
Thus began the beginning of the nine month gestation - not necessarily only of the kid,but also the new reality facing the husband.
